Love The Battle

To love winning is easy.  But to love the battle, that’s what makes a tough competitor.  Toughness has nothing to do with having the “killer instinct” or being “mean.”  Toughness is the ability to consistently perform at the upper range of your talent and skill, regardless of competitive circumstances.

How do you and your organization respond to the challenges of economic contractions, new business models, advancing technologies or burdensome government regulations?

If you don’t love the battle the more likely you will:
·         Get angry
·         Give up
·         Feel and be overwhelmed
·         Feel helpless and depressed
·         Become tired, sick and demoralized
·         Avoid challenges and risks
·         Perform below your potential—be miserable at work

But tough competitors love the battle!  They know how to access powerful emotions during competition – feelings of confidence, positive fight, determination and being “up” for a challenge.  Fortunately, this toughness is a response that you can learn and even teach others.

The more you can love the battle, the more you will:
·         Be resilient in the face of adversity, persevere
·         Be a top performer and sustain high performance
·         Take necessary risks
·         Thrive on change
·         Remain energetic, vital and robust
·         Tackle difficult and complex challenges
·         Be an agile problem-solver and thinker—do well and enjoy your work

Jack Mackey’s Love the Battle presentation builds on landmark research of more than 2000 studies of human performance around the world.
